Cheapest fuel by region: where in the UK pays least?
10 March 2026
Where you live in the UK has a real impact on what you pay for fuel. PumpSaver tracks prices across 12 regions — the 9 official regions of England, plus Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland — and the differences are notable.
Why regional prices differ
Several factors create regional price variation:
- Competition density — areas with more stations per square mile tend to have lower prices as retailers compete for customers.
- Operating costs — London and the South East have higher rents, business rates, and labour costs, which get passed on to drivers.
- Proximity to refineries — regions closer to major refineries (like the North West and North East) can have slightly lower wholesale costs.
- Supermarket coverage — regions with a higher proportion of supermarket forecourts tend to have lower averages, as supermarkets price more aggressively.
How to check your region
PumpSaver's dashboard includes a "By region" section that shows the average price for each UK region, sorted cheapest to most expensive. This updates with every data refresh, so you always see the latest picture.
Making the most of regional data
If you regularly drive between regions — commuting from a cheaper area to a more expensive one, for example — it can pay to fill up before you cross the boundary. Even a 2-3p per litre difference adds up over a year of regular fill-ups.
